Puperita Sassy Dress

I am happy to share my two new knit dresses for my daughter.  This is the Sassy Dress pattern by Puperita, which I received for free in exchange for testing the pattern.  I've returned to work, so I'm pretty picky about what pattern's I will spend my time sewing, but I never hesitate to sew a Puperita pattern.

The Pattern features a collar, long or short sleeves, pockets, an overlap snap placket on the back, and a sweet A-line shape.  The simple design is best when sewn up with busy fabric or when you add an applique.  The back snap placket allows you to use any knit fabric, regardless of stretch percentage.  It is designed for thicker weight knits, so she added the suggestion to take a larger seam allowance on the sleeves if you sew it with thinner jersey.
The PDF pattern features the following:
  • layers, so you can select the size you want to print
  • trim pages
  • measurements chart
  • finished garment ease
  • fabric requirement chart
  • cutting layout
  • collar placement dots, and button placket fold lines
  • a button guide (so you don't have to guess where to place your snaps)
  • 3/8" seam allowances, 1" bottom hem, 3/4" hem for the sleeves
  • facing for finishing the neckline.
This is an intermediate level pattern, because you have to be precise when you place the collar and you need to follow the markings when you assemble the snap/button placket.  As always, Puperita's instructions walk you through every step with clear pictures and when necessary detailed illustrations.  I used my sewing machine for the back seam and for the collar.  I used my BabyLock in serger mode for the sleeves and side seams and finished the hems in coverstitch mode.

I tried something new with both dresses.  The red dress is a gorgeous Organic Stretch French Terry that I bought last year from Cali Fabrics.  Unfortunately, it looks like they are out of it in all of the colors, but I really hope they get more.  It is so stretchy and cozy I love working with the fabric and the garments I have made from it are some of my kid's favorites.  It features my first applique embroidery design Heart Tree from Applique Corner.  I also got to use my cute heart Kam Snaps for the back.  This knit fabric was thick enough that I didn't interface the snap placket.

Susie loves it and insisted she get to wear it the rest of the day after we finished taking pictures.

The blue dress, was my initial fit dress, it is sewn with a double layer knit from Joann's fabrics one layer is dots the other stripes.  I think I might have bought it as a remnant, but it has been in my stash for a while.  It is apparently 82% rayon and 18% cotton, so the dress draped nicely.  The fabric has no spandex and very little stretch, so this was a great dress to use it for (normally knit patterns require some spandex for recovery or more stretch).

After testing the fit, the dress was a bit plain with just the simple dot print, so I searched through my closet and pulled out the butterfly sequin iron on.  I didn't realize how happy the sparkles would make my 4 year old daughter.  She spent all morning Sunday reflecting the sunlight off of her dress onto the wall.  I was happy to have matching butterfly Kam Snaps.

Puperita Lil Critters Dress and Tiny Flowers Blouse

Susie just turned 3 and I finished a lot of UFOs for her birthday.  This was the last set I had to complete and I hope to blog about the others soon.  These are Puperita patterns and both were a joy to sew.  They work perfectly together.  The Tiny Flowers Blouse is shown paired with another overall dress in the pattern, so I can't claim originality for putting the two together.   I have had the Doodle's corduroy for a couple months and when Puperita released the Lil Critters Dress I knew it would be perfect.  For the Tiny Flowers Blouse, I searched Jo-Ann's for apparel fabric that would match the corduroy print and ended up in the quilting cotton section.  I wish there were more specialty cottons availabl...

Sew Straight and Gather Legends Pattern

I was a tester for Sew Straight and Gather's Legends Girls and Ladies  Pattern.  For full disclosure, I received the pattern for free in exchange for testing.  By the way, her super low prices are even lower because, they are in Canadian Dollars.  If you want both you can get the bundle here . This is a super stylish knit top or dress that offers two variations for each option. This is a bit more complicated sew for a knit project, hence the intermediate skill rating, but even then I made three versions of the pattern in a couple of days.  My daughter and I are wearing the Top in View A.  The polka dot dress is Dress View A. When SS&G posted a preview line drawing of her pattern I was really excited by the neckline and profile of the top and really wanted to help with testing.  I was not disappointed the pattern is well drafted and the construction method is amazing.  The V is just enough to...
