Susie in Stitches

Perfect timing for a special dress.  I've been wanting to try out my new Embroidery Module and  Embroidery Library designed another flower ballerina and I couldn't resist buying the design.   Independence Day is always one of my favorite holidays, so I finally made a fun patriotic dress for Susie. The BFF is a dress I've always wanted to sew and I'm really happy I made one for Susie before she outgrew size 6 (She is 4.5" tall, so fully in size 6 now).  Her chest is pretty skinny (22.5" so just size 4), but I just made a straight 6 instead of blending sizes.  The dress is drafted with 2 3/4" of ease in the chest; a comfortable fit for play. My Bernina 770 stitched out the Red, White, and Bloom Ballerina design flawlessly.  It is on linen (a remnant for Joann's) with two layers of cut away stabilizer.  One layer of Poly Mesh and one of  Heavy Weight cut away.  I bought the 4.85" x 5.93" version with 20,323 stitches. ...

Puperita's Liberty Style Blouse is a lovely top for girls size 3-10. I've had this pattern for a very long time and can't believe I waited so long to sew it.  I used a rayon remnant from Jo-Ann's, so it is perfect for a Texas Summer. The sleeve is gathered at the cap giving it a pretty flutter.  I did change the sleeves to have a rolled hem instead of a regular hem, mainly because I really like using that function on my BabyLock. The neckline and armscye are finished with bias tape.  I bought some Liberty Bias tape last year and decided this was the perfect project to try it out.  I love the pretty touch inside the blouse. The blouse has four tiny pleats in the front and back of the bodice that are a very sweet and simple detail. The back buttons.  I adored these butterfly buttons when I found them and they actually are one of the main reasons Susie will wear the blouse. Happy Sewing!

Summer is already here in San Antonio, TX, it's been 90 degrees a few days already, so the Sprinkles set is perfect.  ( I was a pattern tester and received the patterns for free.  I'm also a volunteer admin in Puperita's Facebook group Puperita Teamwork ).  The top has a small drop sleeve (no sleeves to attach) making it so quick to sew.  I love the rounded hi-lo hem and slightly A-line shape of the shirt.  The shorts feature pockets!  What kid doesn't want pockets? Susie is 45.5" tall, but pretty skinny, so I stuck with size 6 and the fit was perfect. I am happy to share my two new knit dresses for my daughter.  This is the Sassy Dress pattern by Puperita, which I received for free in exchange for testing the pattern.  I've returned to work, so I'm pretty picky about what pattern's I will spend my time sewing, but I never hesitate to sew a Puperita pattern.  The Pattern features a collar, long or short sleeves, pockets, an overlap snap placket on the back, and a sweet A-line shape.  The simple design is best when sewn up with busy fabric or when you add an applique.  The back snap placket allows you to use any knit fabric, regardless of stretch percentage.  It is designed for thicker weight knits, so she added the suggestion to take a larger seam allowance on the sleeves if you sew it with thinner jersey.                                         Susie just turned 3 and I finished a lot of UFOs for her birthday.  This was the last set I had to complete and I hope to blog about the others soon.  These are Puperita patterns and both were a joy to sew.  They work perfectly together.  The Tiny Flowers Blouse is shown paired with another overall dress in the pattern, so I can't claim originality for putting the two together.   I have had the Doodle's corduroy for a couple months and when Puperita released the Lil Critters Dress I knew it would be perfect.  For the Tiny Flowers Blouse, I searched Jo-Ann's for apparel fabric that would match the corduroy print and ended up in the quilting cotton section.  I wish there were more specialty cottons availabl...
